 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. RECESSION OFFERS OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP TOURISM & OTHER SECTORS-AMBODE.{PHOTOS}.

                      Lagos State Governor,Mr Akinwunmi Ambode today tuesday said the stark realities of the current economic recession could be a blessing if concerted efforts are geared towards harnessing other critical sectors such as tourism apart from the major focus on oil.Governor Ambode,who spoke at the National Tourism Conference held at Eko Atlantic City {EAC} in Lagos in commemoration of the World Tourism Day,said the current economic situation offered an opportunity for the country to re-order economic priorities and develop other revenue generating channels.He said the conference,which was organized by the Federal Ministry of Information,Culture and Tourism,was a necessary and strategic decision that would enhance the prospects of diversifying the revenue generation channels of the country for the developed and growth of national economy.Governor Ambode,who was represented by the Deputy Governor,Dr Idiat Oluranti Adebule,said there are components States blessed with natural tourism sites which could be developed to harness opportunities that would generate wealth and create jobs for the people.''The potentials of this sector can only be harnessed if we create the right environment for investment to thrive.We must open up the sector through incentives,attractive policies as well as the provision of world class infrastructure,'' the Governor said.More photos below.
