East Boston soccer ball installation sets Guinness World Record as world’s largest ahead of FIFA World Cup matches in Massachusetts A giant soccer ball installed at Piers Park II in East Boston has officially been recognized as the world’s largest, surpassing a previous record set in Qatar in 2013. The inflatable structure was created by Britten, Inc. and Creative Inflatables in Ohio as a celebration of upcoming FIFA World Cup matches scheduled to take place in Foxborough in June and July. The installation will remain on public display through June 18, giving visitors a chance to see the record-breaking display up close. Officials said the materials used in the structure will be recycled once the exhibit is taken down.
It was reported today that Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck has said h will not change the city's stance on illegal immigration, despite President-elect Donald Trump's threat to remove millions of foreigners when he enters office. The LAPD's top cop told Los Angeles Times yesterday monday that his officers are not going to engage in Law enforcement activities solely based on somebody's immigration statud.'.Bck says it is not the LAPD's job to work in conjunction on deportation with Homeland Security-and that's not going to change. He also said deportation was a 'monumental' task, considering there are roughly 500,000 illegal immigrants in the city alone. It has been department policy for decades not to initiate contact with someone solely to determine whether they are in the country legally.During Beck's tenure he has avoided turning over people with questionable immigration status who are arrested for low-level crimes.Beck also told KNK radio that ''We don't make detentions solely based on status, whether it's immigration or any other type of status..and we are not going to change any of that.If the federal government takes a more aggressive role in deportation then they will have to do that on their own,'' added Chief Beck.More photos below.
