 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8. Image result for obiano wins silverbird man of the new                    Governor of Anambra State,Willie Obiano,has emerged as the Silverbird Man of the year,Twenty Sixteen.Governor Obiano,who got the highest number of votes among the four nominees,was shortlisted for the prestigious award,for prudent management of resources and embarking on massive infrastructural development in the state.Governor Obiano has also recorded tremendous achievements in the education sector,resulting in students from Anambra state coming top in WAEC and NECO Senior School Certificate examinations.Governor Obiano's achievement in security has made Anambra State one of the most peaceful states in Nigeris.The Silverbird Man of the Year Award was instituted in two thousand and five to reward individuals who have directly or indirectly impacted positively on the lives of Nigerians.Past winners of the prestigious award include late Professor Dora Akunyili,Governor Nasir El-Rufai,Nuhu Ribadu,Adams Oshiomhole and Alhaji Aliko Dangote.Others are Senator Godswill Akpabio,Mike Adenuga,Doctor Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala,Babatunde Fashola,Peter Obi and Doctor Emmanuel Uduaghan.APC National Leader,Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was named the Silverbird Extraordinary Man of the Year in twenty fifteen.A date for the presentation of all categories of the Silverbird annual awards would be annunced soon.
