 U.N chief Guterres calls for countries fueling Sudan's war to be held accountable United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on Wednesday for countries providing weapons to the warring parties in Sudan that are used to attack civilians to be held accountable. "What is happening in Sudan is absolutely horrible. The humanitarian situation in Sudan is devastating. The level of suffering of the Sudanese people is intolerable," Guterres told reporters ahead of the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations in New York next week. Sudan's war, which erupted in April 2023 following a power struggle between the military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, has displaced more than 14 million people and created one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. FEDERAL MINISTRY OF YOUTH AND SPORTS BESTOWS AWARDS OF OUTSTANDING PREFORMANCES TO MEDAL WINNING NIGERIAN ARMY ATHLETES AND COACHES.{PHOTOS}.

     The Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports, on friday at Abuja, held an awards night for national athletes who won laurels for the country at international Championships held in 2017. The ceremony took place today Friday 19th January 2018 at the Package A of the National Stadium Abuja amidst pomp and pageantry.
Three Nigerian Army Athletes and two coaches received awards for outstanding performances which were handed over to them by the Honourable Minister for Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalong. The athletes were; Private Tochukwu Okeke who won a Bronze Medal at the Senior African Wrestling Championship held at Marrakech, Morocco in April 2017, Private Winnie Gofit, who won a Gold Medal at the African Judo Championship held at Dakar, Senegal in November 2017 and Lance Corporal Yetunde Odunuga, who won a Silver Medal at the African Boxing Championship held at Congo-Brazzaville in June 2017.

The award winning coaches include Warrant Officer Miller Waribo for Judo and Staff Sergeant Umar Mohammed for boxing. The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TY Buratai has congratulated the athletes and coaches for the feats achieved and awards.
