 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. NIGERIAN ARMY REPELS ATTACK, NEUTRALIZE BOKO HARAM AT GASHIGAR.#PRESS RELEASE.

      1. Troops of operation LAFIYA DOLE on clearance operation at Gashigar repelled an attack and neutralized 6 Boko Haram terrorists.
2. Some of the terrorists were also wounded during the encounter.
3. Items recovered include
a. 1 Anti aircraft Gun.
b. 4 AK47 rifles.
c. 6 AK47 Magazines.
d. 2 Mortar Bombs.
e. 2 Gun Trucks.
4. Unfortunately, two soldiers were wounded during the operation.
5. Similarly, troops successfully cleared Gambori, Dumbawa, Damsu, Awardi, Kanaram, Laridi, Malumdi and Yuramdi villages.
6. Items recovered include;
a. One Refrigerator.
b. One 14inch TV.
c. two DVDs.
d. A box filled with drugs.
7. Efforts are on to arrest fleeing other members of the terrorists group.
