 Terrorists, banditry activities in Northwest have reduced – Shehu Sani Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, has disclosed a decrease in the activities of terrorists and bandits in the Northwest. Sani said the recent killings of some top terrorists’ leaders could have been responsible for the decrease. Posting on X, the former lawmaker wrote: “In the last few weeks, there is a noticeable decrease in terrorist and banditry attacks and kidnappings in the North Western parts of this country. “The elimination of some of the top terrorist leaders must have been responsible.This is commendable and should be sustained.” In the past weeks, notable bandit leaders have been killed in the North. Those eliminated include- Haliru Kachalla Sububu or Buzu, Kachalla Tukur Sharme (killed by rival gang), Sani Black, another prominent bandit leader, killed along with his brother and two children, Kachalla Makore, Kachalla Mai Shayi Kachalla Tsoho Lulu and Mai’Yar Gitta.       1. Personnel of the Nigerian Army have been commended for their invaluable contributions and selfless sacrifice towards defending the nation's democracy and keeping the country united in the face of insurgency.
2. The National Coordinator of Non-Violent Peace Initiative (NVPI) Ambassador Mohammed Sahmun Idris, gave the commendation when he paid a courtesy visit to the Action General Officer Commanding 7 Division Brigadier General Bulama Biu in his office.
3. He solicited for partnership with the Nigerian Army towards establishment of peace initiatives against violent crimes.
4. In his words, “today we salute our military, their courage and resilience. We salute their efforts and their love for our country Nigeria, which they have placed above their love for themselves he added.
5. He condemned the senseless destruction of lives and property by Boko Haram Terrorists and commended the laudable efforts of the military to restore peace in the North Eastern part of Nigeria.
6. He further applauded the Nigerian Army leadership, for the establishment of human right desks in all formations across the country to address violations and other wrong doings by its erring personnel, adding that this is a clear demonstration of the Chief of Army Staff professional focus.
7. Responding, the Acting GOC expressed gratitude for the commendation and a special award of recognition for the COAS.
7, He assured that the message will be conveyed to the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, stressing that the award would serve as a boost and encouragement to the gallant troops towards shaping future military operations.
8. He assured the organization of the Nigerian Army's readiness to partner with the body aimed at fighting the unfortunate security challenges bedevilling the country.
9. General Biu added that the multifaceted agency approach and other stakeholders efforts are needed to tackle terrorism.
10. Highlight of the visit was the conferment of the Non Violent Peace Initiative prestigious Award on the COAS.
