 Terrorists, banditry activities in Northwest have reduced – Shehu Sani Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, has disclosed a decrease in the activities of terrorists and bandits in the Northwest. Sani said the recent killings of some top terrorists’ leaders could have been responsible for the decrease. Posting on X, the former lawmaker wrote: “In the last few weeks, there is a noticeable decrease in terrorist and banditry attacks and kidnappings in the North Western parts of this country. “The elimination of some of the top terrorist leaders must have been responsible.This is commendable and should be sustained.” In the past weeks, notable bandit leaders have been killed in the North. Those eliminated include- Haliru Kachalla Sububu or Buzu, Kachalla Tukur Sharme (killed by rival gang), Sani Black, another prominent bandit leader, killed along with his brother and two children, Kachalla Makore, Kachalla Mai Shayi Kachalla Tsoho Lulu and Mai’Yar Gitta.     The Benue State government will soon recruit about 5,000 teachers in its primary education system.
The State Governor, Samuel Ortom disclosed on Thursday, while inaugurating 23 Special Advisers, Chairman and members of the State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB) in Makurdi, the state capital.
He said as one of his priority areas, he will be injecting about N6.6billion UBEC counterparts funding to the primary school sector for infrastructural development.
Ortom urged the Chairman and Members of SUBEB to deal decisively with the issue of “ghost teachers and dead teachers” with the aim of getting rid of them.
He cautioned the new Chairman of the SUBEB not to operate as a sole administrator as in the case of the past chairman but work with the members and management of the Board for effective performance.
“Our desire is for all Benue Children to enroll for a bright future. Primary school education is key,” Ortom said
He appealed to parents to join hands with the state government to raise a strong primary education system for Benue Children.
Ortom while suing for maximum support in their responsibilities, challenged the appointees not to run away from the people, but always listen to them in times of their needs so as to avail them gains of democracy.
In his response, the new Chairman of SUBEB, Emmanuel Akper pledged to give his best as well as work diligently in assisting the governor deliver purposeful governance to the people of the state.
