 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. FIRE OUTBREAK AT DAVID MARK'S HOUSE YESTERDAY IN BENUE STATE.

     The residence of a former Senate President, David Mark, in Otukpo town, Benue State, was gutted by fire, on Thursday.
Witnesses said that the fire spread from a nearby bush bordering the fence of the ex-Senate President’s residence, and bunt down two ambulance vehicles, as well as over 15 motor cycles parked in the premises.
It was gathered that the domestic workers at the residence made frantic efforts to put out the fire without much success, before the arrival of the State Fire Service, in Otukpo.
One of the domestic workers who preferred anonymity, said: “We made every effort to quench the fire, but the more we tried, the more it continued to spread.
“It was when we noticed that we could not stop it from engulfing the Guest House, that we called in the Fire Service.”
At the time of this report, however, none of the family members had yet commented on the matter, even as it was learnt that Mark himself was away from the home.
