 Sudan petitions African Union to overturn suspension Sudan has asked the African Union (AU) to reinstate its full membership and end the country’s suspension from participation in the bloc’s activities. Sudan ambassador’s to Uganda, Ahmed Ibrahim, said that Sudan’s suspension from the African Union had weakened African initiatives aimed at ending the war in the country and enabled external interference. “Accelerating Sudan’s return to the African family would prevent the foreign interference and, at the same time, pave the way for African solutions to African problems,” Ahmed said on Tuesday in remarks at a symposium in Kampala. “We are expecting an effective effort of Uganda as a friendly state, particularly President Yoweri Museveni, as a respected African leader, to support and realise the restoration of Sudan’s activities in the African Union,” he added, TRT Afrika reported. ANAMBRA STATE DISABILITY COMMUNITY BEMOANS MURDER OF MEMBER,CALLS FOR JUSTICE. (PHOTO).



Anambra state disability community has bemoaned the murder of the Coordinator of Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, JONAPWD, Aguata branch, Mr. Mmaduabuchi Nnofu.

Mmaduabuchi, a blind man and the first male child of his family was allegedly murdered and burnt beyond recognition by his younger brother, Mr. Onyedika Nnofu who is the last male child of four boys in the family.

The incident happened on Sunday, January 30th, 2022, at Eziagulu village, Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area.

When ABS arrived the scene of the incident, the place was deserted as doors and windows were under lock and key.

According to a source who spoke to ABS under anonymity, the prime suspect of the murder, Onyedika whom he described as someone who never heeds to advice, has been in conflict for long with Mmaduabuchi his brother, over a piece of land, and has on several occasions, threatened to kill the victim if he does not steer clear.

The source stated that it was at about Twelve noon that he heard a loud shout in Nnopu's compound, and when people gathered to know exactly what happened, it was discovered that the victim was whacked and burnt beyond recognition by the said younger brother, Onyedika.

He explained that the irate youths of the community attempted to lynch the suspect before the intervention of the Police who rescued him, saying that he is now cooling off in police custody.

In an interview, the Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Disability Matters, Barrister Chuks Ezewuzie, described the incident as very unfortunate and a sacrilege, stating that the victim was a vibrant leader in disability community, and a blind person who can never hurt a soul.

Barrister Ezewuzie who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Disability Rights Commission, said that the Office of the Governor on Disability Matters got the report and swung into action immediately, assuring to assist the family, praying that justice would prevail.

On his part, the Coordinator of Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Anambra State, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke, condemned the heinous act and called on security agencies and other relevant authorities to wade into the matter as JONAPWD would not rest until justice prevails.
