 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023. Ooni Of Ife Remarries After Naomi’s Split

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has married a new wife, Mariam Anako, about nine months after then Queen Naomi Silekunola announced her separation from the first-class monarch.

Channels Television gathered from palace sources that the monarch received his new bride on Tuesday evening after brief rites at the palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

It was also learnt that siblings of the new queen and Oba Ogunwusi were present at the private ceremony.

The spokesman for the monarch, Moses Olafare, splashed photos and videos of the event on his Facebook page.

Though efforts to speak with Olafare proved abortive as of press time as his calls rang out, palace sources confirmed to our correspondent that Anako was received at the palace on Tuesday evening. Sources also said an official statement will soon be released by the palace.
