 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

Anambra Legislature Kicks Against Illegal ANSWAMA Levies, Invites Its Managing Director

The Anambra State House of Assembly has declared the published ANSWAMA levies as illegal, saying that the tax rates contravene the existent law that established the authority.

The state legislature in a Tuesday, October 25 plenary has heard a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by the Member Representing Nnewi North Constituency, Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor, and others. 

Reading out the motion, Hon. Smart Okafor brought the House to the notice of a press release signed by the managing director of the Anambra State Waste Management Authority, Mr Mike Ozoemena where it was reeled out, tax rates payable to the state by ventures and bodies operating in the state. 

Referencing the existent law passed by the state legislature, tagged, The Anambra State Waste Management Law 2015 which stipulates in clear figures various fees payable by various enterprises for waste management, Hon. Smart Okafor faulted the MD of the ANSWAMA for going against provisions of the law, lamenting total disregard for the existent law. 

Speaking further, Hon. Smart Okafor expressed worry occasioned by unending complaints emanating from constituents and the general public regarding the rates signed by the MD of ANSWAMA in the said press release. 

The Honourable Member Representing Dunukofia Constituency - Hon. Lawrence Ezeudu., Hon. Ejike Okechukwu of Anaocha II Constituency., Hon. Pete Ibida of Njikoka Constituency., Hon. Emeka Aforka of Orumba North Constituency amongst other members spoke in support of the motion. 

Consequently, The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Victor Okafor PhD read out the resolution of the House as thus; 
"the illegal waste management fees imposed on Ndị Anambra by the managing director of the ANSWAMA are hereby suspended with immediate effect. 
secondly, The House of Assembly invites the managing director of ANSWAMA to appear before the plenary of the State Legislature on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at 10 am to explain to Ndị Anambra the reasons for such action". 

The resolution was supported by Honourable Members of the House through a voice vote.
