 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots. Christmas Of Sorrows For Landlord, Tenants Of Building Razed By Fire In Awka.




It was tears, pains and sorrow for the Landlord and tenants of No. 8 Amangwu Lane, Opposite White House, Umudioka Awka, as fierce fire consumed an entire building of fifteen rooms and two sitting rooms. 


Speaking with newsmen who arrived the scene of the fire incident, the visibly shaken Landlord of the building, Mr. Ikechukwu Umeh revealed that the unfortunate fire incident, started in the early hours of yesterday December 24 and consumed the whole building.


Mr. Umeh said he was already out for his business when he started getting calls that his house was on fire. 


In tears, he told ABS that the house was his entire life's effort and he lost all his valuable properties and that of his tenants.


On the cause of the fire, he explained that the children of one of his  tenants ignited the fire when they were playing with match sticks and lighted clothes in their room, which quickly spread and consumed the entire building. 


He valued the property lost in the fire at about  thirty million Naira. 


A tenant in one of the blocks of the building, Mrs. Chinyere Egburuche remarked that she was indoors watching a movie when her restless child forced her outside for a bath when she discovered the fire. 


She said she immediately raised an alarm but nothing could be done before the entire building was razed.


She also lamented that she could not salvage anything, as her valuables, work tools and documents were destroyed.


Miss Lilian Egburuche, who could not hold back  emotion and tears, painfully narrated how she lost everything to the fire,  just a day after loosing her goods for sale at Onitsha in the hands of thieves. 


The father of the kids who were said to have ignited the fire, Mr. Obinna Woti said he wasn’t home when the incident happened and expressed his devastation over the incident as another tenant Mrs. Eunice Uchenna said they lost everything, including money and items bought for Christmas to the fire in a house they haven’t stayed up to three months.
