 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023. ... Makes Alternative Provision for Urgent Cases During Break

Lagos State Chief Judge, Justice Kazeem Alogba has announced that Lagos Judiciary will begin its Y2022 Christmas vacation on December 23, 2022, and resume work on Tuesday, 3rd of January, 2023.

A release signed by Acting Chief Registrar, Mr. Tajudeen Elias said the Lagos State Chief Judge, Kazeem Alogba had approved the vacation pursuant to order 49 rule 4(c) and 5 of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules 2019.

Elias added that arrangements for dealing with urgent cases during the Christmas vacation are that each judge will deal with all urgent applications related to any substantive case already assigned to him/her.

According to him, “Any urgent application (the substantive case of which has not already been assigned) will be dealt with by the judge to whom the application is specifically assigned.”

“Notwithstanding the provisions of Order 49, Rule 4 (supra) any case or matter may be heard by a judge during the period of the Christmas vacation where such a case or matter is urgent, provided that the conditions prescribed by Order 49 Rule 5 (supra) shall be observed and complied with”, he added.
