The incident which also affected the rooftops of some shops at the same floor was contained following the quick response of the Anambra State Fire Service.

The affected shop was stocked with phone accessories including batteries that were highly explosive.

As at the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire incident is yet to be ascertained.

But initial predictions suggests it might be from a power surge.

Speaking with the Manager Director of Anambra State Fire Service, Chief Martins Agbili, he said:  "at about 7.25 this evening, I got a distress call that there is a fire at this plaza and immediately I deployed my men, the state fire fighters to safe the situation.

"Getting into this place, the shop that contained different kinds of phone accessories was completely burnt, but with efforts of my men we extinguished the fire and prevented it from affecting other shops, though it affected some roofings. The cause could not be ascertained but we suspected power surge and after our findings by tomorrow we will know the actual cause and loses".

In appreciation Chief Agbili, thanked the public for fighting the fire before the arrival of the state fire fighters. "The masses were very good to us as they were assisting to help us get to the second floor. I therefore urge the residents of Anambra to always contact the fire service during emergencies.
