 GUNMEN KILL EX-GUMA COUNCILLOR AT HIS HOME IN BENUE  A former councillor, Hon. Paul Mbatsaver Azahaan, has been killed by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen in Benue State, sparking fresh fears over insecurity in rural communities. Azahaan, who represented Nzorov Council Ward in Guma Local Government Area, was reportedly attacked late on Saturday night, December 13, 2025, at his residence in Tse Azahaan village, Mbagen, Nzorov Ward. According to local sources, the assailants stormed his home under the cover of darkness and launched a deadly attack, leaving the former councillor dead before fleeing the scene. The killing has plunged the community into mourning and heightened anxiety among residents, many of whom say insecurity has continued to worsen across the area. GUNMEN KILL EBUBEAGU COMMANDER'S WIFE,BURN HOUSE ON NEW YEAR DAY.(PHOTO).

Gunmen on New Year day stormed the home of an Ebubeagu commander in Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, killing his wife.

They also set ablaze his country home in Owutu Edda community in the attack which occured at around 2am on Sunday.

Police spokesperson, Chris Anyanwu, confirmed the incident in a statement.

He said: “At about 0230hrs of 01/01/2023, the house of the Afikpo-South Ebubeagu Commander, Oyeku Kalu Chima, located at Owutu Edda, was attacked and set ablaze while his wife Urenwa Kalu Chima was shot dead.


“The Commissioner of Police Ebonyi State Police Command, CP Aliyu Garba psc (+) has directed that immediate investigation be activated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge the State Criminal Investigation/Intelligence Department (SCIID) to unravel those behind the crimes .

“Further to that, detectives of the SCIID and operatives of the command’s tactical teams have taken over proceedings in the area as the CP orders that the perpetrators must be fished out and brought to book pronto.”


Ebubeagu is a regional security outfit set up to complement efforts of security agencieS.
