 Lagos Court Jails NOGASA Chair, Fatuyi Phillips 21 Years  for N43.5m Fraud    Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, November 18, 2024, convicted and sentenced Fatuyi Yemi Philips, Chairman, Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria, NOGASA, to 21 years imprisonment for N43.5m fraud.   The Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on April 5, 2022, arraigned Philips alongside his firm, Oceanview Oil and Gas Limited, on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N43, 502,000.00   Count one reads: "Fatuyi Yemi Philips and Oceanview Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, on or about the 28th day of September, 2016 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the aggregate sum of N43, 502,000.00 from Elochukwu Okoye and Elebana Unique Ventures Nigeria Limited on behalf of WAPCIL Nigeria Limited under the false rep

Anambra Assembly renews Transition Committee Chairmen tenure

The Anambra State House of Assembly has renewed the tenure of the Chairmen and members of Transition Committee of the 21 Local Government Areas of the state for another three months. 

The House extended their tenure in line with section 208 of the Local Government Law as requested by Gov. Chukwuma Soludo during plenary on Feb. 2.

The Speaker of the House, Mr. Uche Okafor who presided over the plenary read out their confirmation, while the lawmakers supported it through voice. 

Okafor, therefore, charged the Local Government Transition Committee Chairmen to sensitize their people on the need to collect their Permanent Voter Cards(PVCs) from the INEC Office in the 21 LGAs across the state to enable them to vote in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

The speaker further urged them to do their best to attract the dividends of democracy to their people to alleviate their suffering. 

In a vote of thanks, the transition Committee Chairman, Ayamelum LGA, Mr. Livinus Onyenwe assured that they would live up to expectations.

Also speaking, the Transition Committee Chairman, Orumba South LGA, Mr. Neville Uchendu commended Gov. Soludo for constructing the Ufuma-Awa-Ndiukwuenu- Amansea road which according to him, has put an end to the long suffering of people on the road.

He added that during the period he piloted the affairs of the local government as chairman, the council had recorded unprecedented development. 

Supporting the motion for adjournment, the Deputy Speaker, Dr. Paschal Agbodike called on the Federal Government to obey the Appeal Court ruling by releasing Mr. Nnamdi Kanu to arrest agitations in the South East. 

Dr. Agbodike also urged members of the National Assembly of the South East extraction to use their positions to secure the release of Mr. Kanu and address the insecurity in Anambra State and all parts of the South East.

This, according to him, would make the areas safe as most people of the South East have deserted the area due to insecurity. (MOI)
