 East Boston soccer ball installation sets Guinness World Record as world’s largest ahead of FIFA World Cup matches in Massachusetts   A giant soccer ball installed at Piers Park II in East Boston has officially been recognized as the world’s largest, surpassing a previous record set in Qatar in 2013. The inflatable structure was created by Britten, Inc. and Creative Inflatables in Ohio as a celebration of upcoming FIFA World Cup matches scheduled to take place in Foxborough in June and July. The installation will remain on public display through June 18, giving visitors a chance to see the record-breaking display up close. Officials said the materials used in the structure will be recycled once the exhibit is taken down.

Soludo felicitates with West African Examination Council at 71

The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo felicitates with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) as it marks its 71st Anniversary.

Mr. Governor represented by the Commissioner for Education, Prof.Ngozi Chuma -Udeh at the event which took place at WAEC, Awka Headquarters, Nise said that WAEC has been a household name, a tradition handed down from generation to generation, adding that it has been 70 decades of excellence on the part of WAEC.

According to him,WAEC is a laudable initiative put in place to move academics in West Africa forward and the organization has never failed in this drive.

"I want to thank WAEC, for holding forte these years and for dishing out human capitals into the five member countries which are involved in WAEC.

"I want to thank  the Head of the Nigeria National Office of the West African Examination Council,  Mr. Patrick Ehidiamen for his stellar administration in the conduct of credible examinations in Nigeria and appealed to WAEC to look into some of their laws. 

"In our fight to sanitize our society, in our fight to produce human capitals who are useful at home and exportable abroad, in our efforts to produce whole human beings capable of contributing to the development of our society, we appeal to WAEC to look into some of their laws and give a human face to punishments."

He expressed the view that WAEC bring the full weight of their law to bear on the students caught in examination malpractice than flagging the entire school for an offense committed by few students.

Earlier,  Mr. Uduakpan, the Branch Controller, WAEC Awka, in his address, said that this is the first time since the outbreak of coronavirus in 2020, the council is celebrating with stakeholders and friends of the council.

He commended the overwhelming support of the council stakeholders, especially Mr. Governor, Prof. Soludo, and his unwavering support of education as well as the fight against examination malpractice in the state.

The 71st anniversary was marked with fun-filled activities, a debate competition between St Patrick College, Awka, and Loretto Special Science School, Adazi Nnukwu formed the highpoint of the day.

Celebration of West African Examination Council Day is an annual event in the council and is celebrated on  March 16, each year.
