 IGP DISU PAYS OPERATIONAL VISIT TO  AKWA IBOM, PRESIDES OVER PASSING-OUT CEREMONY OF 1,068 RETRAINED CONSTABLES The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today, 30th April 2026, undertook an official visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, ahead of the passing-out ceremony of retrained Police Constables in Uyo. Two Policemen Killed As Gunmen Attack Another Checkpoint In Imo

Unidentified gunmen have again attacked a police checkpoint located at Okpala Junction along Owerri/Aba Road, Ngor Okpala council area of Imo State one month after they killed five policemen and husband and wife at the same junction.

The incident, which happened early hours of today, Saturday 20th May 2023, left two policemen dead and many others injured, our correspondent gathered.

An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the gunmen came in numbers and opened fire on the police officers who were on road-block morning stop-and-search duty.

A traveler who passed through the road confirmed to our correspondent that two police officers were killed while he saw one who was injured.

He said; “I saw the liveless body while coming to work this morning. Two killed and one injured inside police van”.

As of the time of filing this report, teams of policemen were drafted to the area

Efforts to speak with the police spokesperson in Imo State command, Henry Okoye, to confirm the incident proofed abortive as of the time of filing this report.

Also, text messages sent to his known phone number were not responded to.
