ANAMBRA BAN MONIEPOINT SERVICES OVER FRAUD PRACTICES

16th June, 2023

Anambra State Government on Friday banned the services of Moniepoint across the State with immediate effect.

The Executive Director in charge of operations and other revenue in Anambra State, Dr Christian Madubuko announced the directive while addressing journalists in his office, shortly after parading two suspected coordinators of the moniepoint arrested by security men in Awka, the State capital.

The Executive Director told journalists that the suspect, Mr Ndubuisi Anadi was arrested over alleged financial rascality and removal of the state government payment system.

Speaking to the press, Dr Madubuko said ” These are money point coordinators in Anambra State.”These issues are complex” You are in Anambra, and you must have heard a lot of stories about people paying their taxes, and the taxes not reflected in the government account.” “So we have been asking them what has been going wrong”

“You can imagine that a Keke operator will pay #2,500 naira, and only #50 naira will hit the Government account and the rest of two thousand, four hundred and fifty Naira disappears without a trace.

“This is a fault and we can’t accept it. We want the money paid by Anambra indigenes used to develop the State.

” We will fight it to the end. We want the money paid by our people to be used judiciously, and used it for the purpose it was paid for.”We will use these people to set an example for those who would want to be funny in future.

And I can tell you that we are cancelling instantly the services of money point in Anambra State.” he said.

There are a lot of strange stories everywhere and we don’t know which one is true.” We want to know who configured these POS and for what purpose.

The intention of the governor to digitalize the system is sabotaged by the people within the system.”We want to get this problem and treat them accordingly.

Dr Madubuko further said that Mr Anadi will be charged in court and if found guilty will face the full wrath of the law.

On his part, the Moniepoint Coordinator, Mr Anadi said the company received several notifications of the payment made by taxpayers that did not reflect in the government account, stating that it was a glitch in the system whereby transaction will hit the Moniepoint platform but will not reflect at the Central Processing System.

When questioned about the removal of the government payment system, He accepted that they removed it without due notification to the government, lamenting that it was removed due to the huge loss recorded by the business owners even as he said that the company is working to resolve all pending issues.
