'If you rush in, you will rush out', Funke Akindele advises ladies on marriage

Take Your Time.... She said.

“Choose to have children because you genuinely want to experience the joy of motherhood. Let it be your own desire to bring life into this world and not because society may label you as 'barren' or because you feel pressured by the passing of time. Ignore the gossip and the negative voices. Give them a resounding 'I don't care' because your life is yours to live. Do what brings you happiness."

Popular Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, has offered valuable advice to women, urging them not to succumb to societal pressures and rush into marriage.

In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jidenowo, the actress shared her perspective on this matter. Akindele revealed that she herself felt compelled to settle down and start a family due to external pressures. Unfortunately, her first marriage ended in dissolution after just a year.

Reflecting on that difficult period in her life, Akindele disclosed how she managed to overcome it by redirecting her focus towards her work.

She said, "I have never addressed this issue before, but I want to encourage women who feel pressured to get married. Please take a moment to calm down and be patient, because if you rush into something, you may rush out just as quickly...that is the lesson I learned."

Akindele shared her personal experience, stating, "You know, I just wanted to get married. I wanted to do things the right way, have children, and so on. But my first marriage didn't work out well. It ended in a very public and unpleasant manner. The whole situation was all over social media. I was actually in the middle of filming when someone called and told me. I felt like my world was collapsing."

She continued, "I cried and even lost some valuable opportunities. However, I refused to let it break me."

Addressing young women, Akindele emphasized the importance of not succumbing to societal pressures. She advised, "Ladies out there, please do not let yourself be pressured into getting married. Get married because it's what you truly desire. Marry someone because you love them and want to spend the rest of your life with them. Do not get married simply because your parents or friends are urging you to do so."

Akindele further urged women to have children for the right reasons, saying, "Choose to have children because you genuinely want to experience the joy of motherhood. Let it be your own desire to bring life into this world and not because society may label you as 'barren' or because you feel pressured by the passing of time. Ignore the gossip and the negative voices. Give them a resounding 'I don't care' because your life is yours to live. Do what brings you happiness."
