 Malian army withdraws from key Tessalit military camp: sources Mali’s army and its Russian mercenary allies have surrendered Camp Tessalit, a strategic military post in the north, multiple sources told the AFP news agency on Friday. An official from the Tuareg-led separatist group claimed soldiers and mercenaries at the camp had "surrendered", following a fierce fight over the weekend. Simultaneous attacks in Mali by militants linked to Al Qaeda and separatist Tuareg rebels on April 25 showed how fighters ​from different groups with different goals were able to strike at the heart of the West African country's military government. Gunfire and explosions were reported in the capital Bamako and around a large military base outside the capital, as well as Gao and central areas, as gunfire continuing in the northern city of Kidal. The First Lady of Nigeria, Remi Tinubu, on Monday, hailed members of the Nigerian Female Football Team, Super Falcons following their performance at the ongoing female World Cup championship.

It had been reported that the Super Falcons crashed out of the tournament following their loss through penalties to the English team, the Lionesses last week Monday.

Addressing the players at the State House, Abuja, Mrs. Tinubu who received the team alongside officials of the Nigeria Football Federation said, “You gave your all and we are proud of you. Although the final result did not go our way, I am here to remind you that victory is not solely determined by the score on the field. The unbreakable spirit and unity that you demonstrated are true markers of success”.

Speaking further, the former senator noted that the Falcons through their performance have now become role models for young girls in the country.

“You have not only represented Nigeria on the global stage but have also become role models for our youth, especially young girls who now see their aspirations mirrored in you.

“I salute you today and welcome you back home and our goodwill and best wishes go to other players who have gone back to their base. You gave your all, and we stand with you. We are so proud of you”.

In his remarks, the President of the Nigerian Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, thanked the First Lady for the warm reception and assured that the players would continue to give good and qualitative representation to the country.
