FG, NLC Meeting Ends In Deadlock

Federal Government’s meeting with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday ended in deadlock as the two parties could not reach an agreeable resolution.

The meeting followed NLC’s threat to embark on an indefinite strike.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong and his colleague in the Ministry, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, met with the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and other leaders in Abuja.

Simon Lalong while appealing to the NLC to shelve the proposed strike said industrial action have taken a toll on the nation’s economy and promised to partner with organised labour to address their demands in balanced way.

On his part, the NLC President Joe Ajaero said they honored the invitation of the federal government just to see whether their demands would be met this time alleging that resolutions reached with the government had failed to yield positive result.

The Federal Government is expected to meet with the leadership of the Trade Union Congress on Monday thisweek.

NLC had embarked on two days warning strike on 5th and 6th of September 2023 to protest the sufferings of Nigerians emanating from the removal of fuel subsidy in May.

The National Executive Council of NLC are expected to meet on Wednesday to take a decision after the ultimatum given to the government ends on 21 September 2023.
