 A septuagenarian couple from Haryana’s Karnal district officially ended their 44-year marriage following an 18-year legal dispute. The Punjab and Haryana High Court’s mediation and conciliation centre facilitated the resolution, which involved a significant settlement of Rs 3.07 crore in permanent alimony. The husband, determined to part ways, sold portions of his prime agricultural land to fulfill the agreement. The couple, married on August 27, 1980, under Hindu rites, had three children—two daughters and one son. Due to growing temperamental differences, they began living separately on May 8, 2006. The husband filed for divorce in the Karnal family court on grounds of mental cruelty, but his plea was rejected in January 2013. He later appealed to the high court, where the case remained unresolved for nearly 11 years before being referred to mediation on November 4, 2024.  PTAD Pays Pensioners Over N800m Arrears


Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has paid over N800m to 2,730 pensioners of the Civil service Pension Department being payment of accrued arrears and gratuity owned the pensioners.


A statement by PTAD’s Head, Corporate Communications, Olugbenga Ajayi says the pensioners that benefitted from the payment include verified pensioners not on the payroll, those who did not receive their gratuity on retirement and failed payments on the GIFMIS platform.


According to Statement, the Acting Executive Secretary of PTAD, Sulayman Shelleng, affirms that the payment will continue until all accrued arrears are paid.


Shelleng assures other pensioners who are yet to receive their arrears to be calm as the Directorate is working tirelessly to ensure that all outstanding arrears of pensions and gratuity are paid soon.


He further assures DBS pensioners of the Directorate’s continued strive to ensure that their welfare is promoted.
