 Sudan petitions African Union to overturn suspension Sudan has asked the African Union (AU) to reinstate its full membership and end the country’s suspension from participation in the bloc’s activities. Sudan ambassador’s to Uganda, Ahmed Ibrahim, said that Sudan’s suspension from the African Union had weakened African initiatives aimed at ending the war in the country and enabled external interference. “Accelerating Sudan’s return to the African family would prevent the foreign interference and, at the same time, pave the way for African solutions to African problems,” Ahmed said on Tuesday in remarks at a symposium in Kampala. “We are expecting an effective effort of Uganda as a friendly state, particularly President Yoweri Museveni, as a respected African leader, to support and realise the restoration of Sudan’s activities in the African Union,” he added, TRT Afrika reported. Sultan Inaugurates 10.2km Road in Bayelsa, 
Emphasizes Nation's Unity in Diversity 

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has enjoined Nigerians to remain united and work towards peace and progress of the country.

He stated this in Yenagoa shortly before inaugurating phase two of the ten point two kilometer Glory Drive Dual Carriageway project.

The Sultan had earlier on arrival at the Bayelsa Airport visited the State Traditional Rulers Council where he reiterated the need for peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.

He noted that the diversity in the nation was a source of strength, urging Nigerians to unite and work for the development of the country.

The Sultan who stated that it was only through unity Nigeria could achieve her potential, commended the Bayelsa state government and the contractor for completing the road project and maintaining standards, urging the people to support and pray for their leaders to succeed.

Governor Douye Diri in an address said the current administration decided to complete the project as part of its commitment to infrastructural development and connect all parts of the State.

The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Moses Teibowei had earlier stated that the Glory Drive Road began during the Administration of Doctor Goodluck Jonathan as Governor following the award of phase one of the project.

He explained that phase two of the 10.2 kilometer project was first awarded by the Timipre Sylva Administration to FAKS Engineering but later abandoned but re-awarded by the Governor Diri’s Administration on February 4, 2021 to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and completed at a cost of thirty billion Naira, explaining that phase three of the project had also been awarded.

Secretary of the Epie Council of Chiefs, Dr. Morrison Odede who is the Paramount Ruler of Okaka, on behalf of the people of the Epie Kingdom expressed joy for the completion of the project, stating that it would open up the State for further development.
 
A representative of the company that handled the project said construction work which started in March, 2021 was completed earlier this year.
