 Nonye Soludo highlights sports as a tool for youth character development Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has described sports as a powerful tool for character formation and social inclusion among youths in the society. Soludo made the assertion, yesterday, in Awka while flagging off the 2nd edition of the Nonye Soludo Volleyball Championship. The group stage of the championship will be concluded today, while the final will be decided on Saturday. She said the competition was aimed at promoting youth development, teamwork, and healthy competition through sports. She further explained that the tournament is part of efforts to positively engage young people, discover talents and encourage discipline and unity among youths in the state. “This competition will also serve as a platform for nurturing future volleyball stars. Gunmen ki!ll businessman in Niger state

Gunmen have kil!led a businessman, Alhaji Abdul-Samiu Jimoh, in Mokwa town, headquarters of Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.

A resident, Idris Mohammed told Daily Trust that the victim was k!illed in his shop around 8pm on Tuesday October 10, when he resisted being taken away by the gunmen. 

“The businessman was sh0t because he didn’t agree to be taken away by the gunmen who insisted he should follow them. It was while dragging with them that they sh0t him,” he said. 

Spokesperson of the state Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, has confirmed the incident.

“On 10/10/2023 at about 2145hrs, information was received that suspected armed robbers/kidn@ppers attacked the shop of one Alhaji Samiu Jimoh, a spare parts seller on Bida Road around Bi-water area of Mokwa," he stated. 

The PPRO added that before the police could arrive at the scene of the incident, the victim was found to have been sh0t by the hoodlums and was rushed to the Mokwa General Hospital where he was confirmed de@d.
