 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8. Poor living conditions: Nigerian lawmakers ask FG to sell all police barracks in the country

The House of Representatives has called for the sake of police barracks across the country to tackle the deplorable living conditions of officers.

The resolution by the House comes after the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance by Murphy Omoruyi (LP-Edo) during plenary in Abuja on Thursday, October 26.

Leading the debate, Mr Omoruyi said that the National Assembly passed the Police Reform Bill 2020, which was signed into law by former President, Muhammadu Buhari on 16 September 2020.

He said that one of the core issues of the Act was to address the living conditions of the nation’s police officers.

He said, “Between 2019 – 2022 more than N5 billion was spent by the Federal Government on renovation of barracks.”

Mr Omoruyi said that all efforts made to rehabilitate the barracks failed.

He said there had been robust national debate and calls for more community-oriented policing strategies.
