 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. BENUE STATE UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL SLASHES CHILD DELIVERY COSTS TO N5,000

In a concerted effort to realize one of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s visionary goals and alleviate the discomfort associated with childbirth, the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, under the leadership of Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, has significantly reduced the medical expenses for child delivery to just N5,000.

Additionally, the hospital has waived the fees for medical cards for pregnant women and children under the age of five at the Muhammadu Buhari Mother and Child Hospital, overseen by Chief Medical Director, Dr. Stephen Terungwa Hwande.

Dr. Hwande, in discussions with the press, explained that these initiatives are steps taken to enhance healthcare services throughout the state, benefiting all residents of Benue. He emphasized that the goal is to establish these hospitals as paragons of best practices in the healthcare sector.

Furthermore, the CMD expressed his dismay at the mismanagement tactics employed by the previous administration, which had severely impacted the BSUTH medical facility. He noted that Governor Alia’s administration, with a strong focus on citizen welfare, is fully dedicated to ensuring that the medical sector in Benue State not only meets global standards but also serves as a reference point for others to follow.

In conclusion, he reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to assisting Governor Hyacinth Alia in delivering on his campaign pledges to the people of Benue, particularly in his designated area of responsibility.
