 STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE   ENGINEERS FAROUK AHMED, GBENGA KOMOLAFE RESIGN, PRESIDENT TINUBU NOMINATES SUCCESSORS TO THE SENATE FOR APPROVAL President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve the nominations of two new chief executives for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).   The requests followed the resignation of Engineer Farouk Ahmed of the NMDPRA and Gbenga Komolafe of the NUPRC. Both officials were appointed in 2021 by former President Buhari to lead the two regulatory agencies created by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).   To fill these positions, President Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting expedited confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as CEO of NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of NMDPRA.   The two nominees are seasoned professionals in the oil and gas industry.   Eyesan, a graduate of Economics f...

SANWO-OLU CALLS FOR COLLABORATION OF FILM INDUSTRY EXPERTS TO PROMOTE RESPONSIBLE CONTENT CREATION


Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called for effective collaboration with industry experts and regulatory bodies to establish a framework that will promote responsible content creation, distribution and consumption.

He made the call at the third Nigeria Digital Content Regulation Conference (NDCRC) which took place recently at Radisson Blu Hotel, Isaac John Street, GRA Ikeja.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toyin Atekoja, noted that the lack of global standards for regulating digital content raises concerns about the impact on cultural values and societal norms.

He said, “As content travels across borders, it is essential to ensure that it respects the diversity and sensitivities of different cultures. The absence of guidelines can potentially lead to the spread of content that may be offensive, inappropriate, or harmful to certain communities”.  

The Governor reiterated that his administration is committed to supporting the growth of the film industry while ensuring that it upholds the highest standards of creativity, ethics, and cultural sensitivity. He implored all stakeholders - filmmakers, industry associations, regulatory bodies, and international partners, to join hands with the State Government in shaping global standards for regulating digital content".

On his part, Executive Director/CEO, National Film and Video Censors Board, Alhaji Adedayo Thomas, the convener of the conference, thanked Mr. Governor for his tremendous support in the industry and equally appreciated all stakeholders present at the event. 

Adedayo informed participants that the objective of the third edition of the NDCRC is to primarily discuss the growth of the film industry and evaluate concerns around global standards for regulation of digital content in the face of advances in the development of cutting-edge technologies.
