27 PRO-WIKE LAWMAKERS WITHDRAW IMPEACHMENT NOTICE AGAINST FUBARA. (PHOTO).

27 pro-Wike lawmakers withdraw impeachment notice against Fubara

Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, withdrew the impeachment notice they earlier sent to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Twenty six of the lawmakers were said to have pronounced withdrawal notice during a sitting at the Assembly Quarters presided over by the Speaker, Martin Amaehwule.

Recall that on October 30, 2023, 24 lawmakers had signed Fubara’s impeachment notice.

The lawmakers, it was learnt, had gathered to focus on the withdrawal of the impeachment notice against Fubara while their deliberations lasted.

The lawmakers’ action follows a meeting between Tinubu and the warring parties in Aso Rock Villa in Abuja on Monday, resulting in the signing of a truce.

The lawmakers, on Wednesday, announced their decision to withdraw in a notice read on floor of the House, saying their respect for the President was the reason behind their action.

The spat between Governor Fubara and his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wike, divided the lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly, resulting in 27 of them defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

While the feud lasted, parallel sittings became the order of the day, an impeachment plot against Governor Fubara was hatched and uncovered, the state Assembly complex was demolished and pro-Wike commissioners resigned in droves from the cabinet of Governor Fubara.
