An Indiana high-school girls' basketball game ended in tragedy after a referee collapsed on court.  On the night of December 12th, the girls' basketball team at Monrovia High School was playing Speedway High School. With only 6 minutes left in the second quarter, an emergency halted the game, and fans were evacuated from the gymnasium.  Sadly, a long-time referee, Jeff Tamarri, had collapsed while officiating the game. A defibrillator was reportedly used within a minute of his collapse, and EMTs arrived just moments later. Sadly, despite everyone's best efforts, Jeff was pronounced deceased on scene by EMTs. Monrovia High School said they will have counselors available for students who may be affected by Tamarri's sudden passing. Our thoughts are with the family of Jeff Tamarri as well as the community as a whole.

Learn to develop acceptance skills in your marriage

By Elizabeth Badejo

The greatest joy of marriage is finding true love and someone to share your life with and fill the emptiness too, but when you find someone just like you, you may only fill part of the emptiness.
When you find someone who is completely different, you have the potential to fill the vacuum if you both accept your differences and continue to practice acceptance in your marriage.
Acceptance is a skill that is often misconstrued in many marriages but when it is acknowledged and explored, it can alleviate all fears and emotional apprehensions in a marriage. Here are different ways you can practice acceptance skills and start to transform your marriage.
Live and Let’s Live
Give your spouse the freedom to make his/her own choice without fear or intimidation even if you don’t believe in their ability or are skeptical about the outcome.
Your spouse will find joy in knowing that you are thoughtful. Accepting your spouse’s individuality can identify opportunities and acknowledge their successes, which can create respect on a common ground so that you are able to share your own opinion without being judgmental.
Accept Your Weaknesses
It is impossible to build a life of happiness in marriage if you don’t accept your significant other’s weaknesses and acknowledge the difficulties of their own journey if they are different from yours.
True acceptance in a marriage is recognizing the other person’s suffering and failings and making the choice to walk with them side by side through finding a solution.
Separating your spouse from their problems is a high level of acceptance that truly shows humanity and compassion.
Accept your differences and originality and appreciate those things that bring your spouse joy like their hobbies, lifestyle, families and connections even if you are an introvert with an opposing life.
Accepting your spouse’s personality is a positive skill that will foster love and unity in your marriage. Learning to accept each other’s lives can create meaningful and pleasant choices that you can enjoy alone and together as a couple.
Practice Appreciation
Some spouses have unrealistic expectations of marriage which can leave them feeling disappointed when those needs are not met.
When a spouse has self-seeking desires, he/she is more likely to overlook the sacrifices the other person makes to support the marriage.
Marriage breeds familiarity, which can often make it easier to focus on each other’s mistakes and become less appreciative. Learn to appreciate the little things your spouse does daily to make you feel safe and secure in your marriage.
Acknowledge the commitment your spouse puts into your marriage and express gratitude for the love and affection even if you believe there is still room for improvement as acceptance can further encourage your spouse to intensify the efforts.
Trust & Believe in the Process
When you develop acceptance as a skill, you will remain calm and persistent even in difficult situations. Being patient and persistent in marriage is an acceptance skill that brings peace and reassurance even when it makes no sense to others. Acceptance is a big sacrifice in marriage. It is a choice you make and your commitment to believe in the process through the turbulence of life and a decision to bring the best out of each other so that you can both find fulfilment in your marriage.
