Tragic mistake in Tudun Biri: Nigerian Army acknowledges unintended bombing

The Kaduna State Government has confirmed a heartbreaking incident in Tudun Biri, Igabi Local Government Area, where the Nigerian Army admitted to mistakenly dropping a bomb during a Maulud celebration, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 30 lives on Sunday.

Contradicting earlier denials by the Nigerian Air Force, Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, disclosed that Major Gen VU Okoro, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army, acknowledged the error during a routine mission against terrorists.

This admission unfolded during a meeting at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna, convened by Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Balarabe. The gathering included Islamic clerics, traditional rulers, and heads of security agencies.

In a statement following the closed-door meeting, Commissioner Aruwan shared the Army’s explanation for the “unfortunate and unintended attack,” underscoring that the military’s mission inadvertently impacted the lives of innocent villagers.

Ongoing search-and-rescue operations are actively evacuating dozens of injured victims to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital under the government’s coordination. The Commissioner further conveyed Deputy Governor Balarabe’s heartfelt condolences to the affected families, accompanied by prayers for the peaceful repose of the victims’ souls.

The meeting’s attendees featured prominent figures, including the state Commissioner of Police, MY Garba; Director of the Department of State Services, Abdul Eneche; and religious leaders, with Prof. Shafi’u Abdullahi leading representatives from Jam’atu Nasril Islam.

The presence of Alhaji Aminu Idris, the District Head of Rigasa, where the incident occurred, highlighted the gravity of the situation and the collaborative response from diverse authorities.

As Kaduna State grapples with this tragic incident, the immediate focus remains on providing support to affected families and ensuring a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the unintentional attack.
