 Terrorists, banditry activities in Northwest have reduced – Shehu Sani Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, has disclosed a decrease in the activities of terrorists and bandits in the Northwest. Sani said the recent killings of some top terrorists’ leaders could have been responsible for the decrease. Posting on X, the former lawmaker wrote: “In the last few weeks, there is a noticeable decrease in terrorist and banditry attacks and kidnappings in the North Western parts of this country. “The elimination of some of the top terrorist leaders must have been responsible.This is commendable and should be sustained.” In the past weeks, notable bandit leaders have been killed in the North. Those eliminated include- Haliru Kachalla Sububu or Buzu, Kachalla Tukur Sharme (killed by rival gang), Sani Black, another prominent bandit leader, killed along with his brother and two children, Kachalla Makore, Kachalla Mai Shayi Kachalla Tsoho Lulu and Mai’Yar Gitta. On 13/01/2024 at about 1400hrs detectives attached to C’ Divisional Police Headquarters led by SP Abubakar Naziru Pindiga (DPO) acted on Credible Intelligence from a vigilante group and arrested one Mike James Habila ‘m’ a 400level student of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, (ATBU) Bauchi, at the student residence in Gubi village via Bauchi for illegal possession of firearms. 

Preliminary Investigation uncovered the suspects had illegally possessed two different types of firearms which include thus; 
One locally-made gun
One locally-made piston
9mm live ammunition.

During Interrogation, the Defendants confessed to the crime, his statement was recorded under the word of caution claimed that the weapons belonged to one Samson Irimiya alias Zaddeos ‘m’ who was previously arrested in possession of a locally made pistol on 24/05/2021, thereafter search warrant was executed. Investigation is in progress to truncate all related cases of firearms in Bauchi.

In a related development, a case of Criminal Breach of Trust, forgery Criminal Misappropriation, and Obtaining Money under False Pretense was reported at Area Command metro by one Abdulrahman Muhammad Auwal ‘m’ of new GRA Bauchi in the accompany of six (6) other victims namely; Nwachukwu Ezra, Linus Ikechukwu, Oriowo Toluwani, Al-Amin Maina Lawal, Ibrahim Musa Baraya, Anyim David Ogali, Ekumah Heavy Emmanuel, Abbas Abdulkadir, Muhammad Lawal, Layegue Emmanuel.

The above-mentioned complainants individually entrusted one Timothy Oseni ‘m’ aged 28yrs of Yelwa anguwan kusu Bauchi with their money the sum of six hundred- and sixty-three-thousand-naira (N663,000) in his business café center (crystal clear business center) situated within the compound of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi, Yelwa campus for their school fees registration.

On receipt of the complaint, a team of detectives attached to the Area Command Metro swung into action and arrested the culprits.

Preliminary Investigation revealed that the accused person dishonestly and fraudulently collected the alleged amount for the registration and later fraudulently used a wasted registration slip, edited and presented it to them as their registration slip.

During interrogation, the defendant confessed to have forged so many registrations slip for the student of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, (ATBU) Bauchi. 

Investigation is still ongoing, after which the defendant will be charged to court for the established offenses accordingly.
