 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. FG to extend crackdown on degrees accreditation


The Federal Government says it will extend the suspension of degrees accreditation to more countries, including Kenya and Uganda.


This comes days after the Ministry of Education suspended the accreditation of degrees from Benin and Togo.


Education Minister, Tahir Mamman stated this during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday.


“We are going to extend the dragnet to countries like Uganda, Kenya, even Niger here where such institutions have been set up,” he added.


The move followed a report detailing how a degree was acquired from a university in Benin Republic within two months by an undercover reporter Umar Audu.


“I have no sympathy for people patronising the institutions. Instead, they are part of the criminal chain that should be arrested”, he stated.


The minster said the measure is crucial to safeguarding Nigeria’s employers and preserving the integrity of the country’s qualifications.


In the meantime, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) had appealed to the Federal Government to reconsider the suspension of accreditation of degree certificates from Benin Republic and Togo.


The students’ body maintained that the government needed to have a rethink on the impact the decision would have on legitimate students who have pursued their education in the affected countries.
