Former Sierra Leonean President Koroma may be flown to Abuja for exile Thursday

Former Sierra Leonean President Ernest Koroma may be flown to Abuja, Nigeria for exile on Thursday in a deal brokered by ECOWAS.

Koroma was earlier today charged for treason for his alleged role to overthrow the government of President Julius Maada Bio on 26 November 2023.

Diplomatic sources in neighbouring Liberia have revealed to that “air space approval has been granted for the aircraft to fly Koroma to Abuja.”

However, the decision to allow him to be flown out rests with President Bio who is yet to give his nod.

Legal luminary, Femi Falana has, however, revealed that “ the buck stops on the desk of the trial judge, not the president.”

Koroma was indicted for treason and other offences on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, in front of Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Magistrate Court #2.

The former President was charged with four offences, including treason, misprision of treason, and two counts of harbouring.

Koroma was represented by Joseph F. Kamara and other lawyers.

The Ministry of Information promised to provide updates on the proceedings.
