 M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept". Rwanda denies supporting M23 and has blamed Congolese and Burundian forces for the renewed fighting.  Yobe Gov declares Feb 7 work free day in honour of late Gov Bukar


Gov Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has declared Wednesday, Feb 7, a work free day to mark a three-day prayers for late former Governor of the state, Sen Bukar Abba Ibrahim.

Alhaji Mamman Mohammed,the Director General, Press and Media Affairs to the governor said this while addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Damaturu.

He said the day was set aside to offer prayers for the former governor who died in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

The three days prayers, according to him, would be offered at the Government House Mosque, Damaturu.

Mohammed said Yobe government had officially took over the funeral rites to honour the late governor.

He also explained that Gov Buni, in the company of government officials and the family of the late governor, has been receiving condolences from sympathisers from within and outside the state at the Government House, Damaturu.
