 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots. HAWAIIAN INMATE ESCAPES JAIL ONLY TO BE FALLY STRUCK BY VEHICLE WHILE HW WAS ATTEMPTING TO ELUDE GUARDS. (PHOTO).

 Hawaiian inmate escapes jail only to be fatally struck by vehicle while he was attempting to elude guards. 


Mathew Ornellas Jr. passed away Thursday after being struck by a vehicle during a daring jail escape last Friday. 


According to officials, Ornellas scaled a razor wire fence at Kauai community correctional center. Guards began chasing him but lost sight of him when he entered a brushy area. Moments later they heard a loud sound from a nearby road and went to investigate.  They soon discovered Ornellas lying on the side of Kuhio Highway suffering from serious injuries. 


He was transported to a local hospital where he remained in critical condition until he passed away Thursday. 


Ornellas was a minimum security inmate serving time on a drug conviction. 


The driver who struck him fled the scene and is still at large. Police are asking anyone who knows the drivers identity to do the right thing and come forward with the information.


I can't help but feel sorry for him because he was only there on a light charge. I hope they find the driver. I'm sure he didn't see Ornellas, as he was eluding officers.
