 Malian army withdraws from key Tessalit military camp: sources Mali’s army and its Russian mercenary allies have surrendered Camp Tessalit, a strategic military post in the north, multiple sources told the AFP news agency on Friday. An official from the Tuareg-led separatist group claimed soldiers and mercenaries at the camp had "surrendered", following a fierce fight over the weekend. Simultaneous attacks in Mali by militants linked to Al Qaeda and separatist Tuareg rebels on April 25 showed how fighters ​from different groups with different goals were able to strike at the heart of the West African country's military government. Gunfire and explosions were reported in the capital Bamako and around a large military base outside the capital, as well as Gao and central areas, as gunfire continuing in the northern city of Kidal. IGP EGBETOKUN JOINS OTHER POLICE LEADERS AT 14th WORLD POLICE SUMMIT, DUBAI



The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, is currently participating in the 14th World Police Summit holding in Dubai from the 5th to the 7th of March, 2024. The global symposium is a forum for law enforcement, security, and policing professionals from around the world to exchange insights, best practices, and strategies for addressing contemporary challenges in public safety and security.


The World Police Summit serves as a platform for fostering international collaboration and cooperation in combating transnational crime, terrorism, cyber threats, and other emerging security issues by providing  a unique opportunity for law enforcement leaders to engage in constructive dialogue, share experiences, and explore innovative solutions to complex security challenges.


During his attendance at the summit, the IGP will participate in high-level discussions, panel sessions, and workshops focused on key thematic areas such as counterterrorism, crime prevention, community policing, and technological advancements in law enforcement. He will also have the opportunity to network with counterparts from various countries, strengthening bilateral and multilateral partnerships in the global fight against crime.


The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to leveraging international platforms such as the World Police Summit to enhance its capacity, knowledge, and capabilities in addressing evolving security threats and safeguarding the safety and well-being of all Nigerians. The insights gained from this summit will inform our strategic initiatives and operational approaches to ensure effective policing and law enforcement across the country.
