 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8.  Lagos CBD arrests, prosecutes 882 drivers


The Lagos Central Business District (CBD), has arrested and prosecuted a total of 833 vehicle drivers and 49 tricycles drivers in one year for flouting traffic rules.

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser on Central Business Districts, Bola Lawal on Monday at a ministerial press briefing at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre Alausa, Ikeja.

“A total of 833 vehicle drivers and 49 tricycle drivers were arrested and prosecuted accordingly for various traffic offences ranging from illegal parking, illegal U-turn, obstruction, one-way and obstruction of traffic” she said.

Lawal revealed that two CBD operatives were disciplined for extortion from motorists by outright dismissal.

She sympathized with victims of the fire outbreak at a section of the Idumota market area and assured that the government is at work and not sleeping on the incident.

“Again, I want to express my deepest sympathies to all those who have been affected by this tragedy. The government understands the pain and uncertainty that many of you are feeling right now and I want you to know that you are not alone

“The government is here to support you every step of the way as we rebuild and recover from this disaster” the special adviser stated.

“I want to assure you that the government is fully committed to ensuring the safety and integrity of our buildings in the affected area” she added.
