 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  Age falsification: Civil servants manipulating court affidavits, NPC certificates – Abia Govt


Abia State Government has revealed that it has observed the activities of some civil and public servants who are engaging in age falsification with court affidavits.


Abia state Head of Service, Mrs Ngozi Obioma, in a statement on Thursday, said some civil and public servants also approach the National Population Commission (NPC) to obtain fake Date of Birth (DoB) certificates.


She noted with dismay that the fraudulent officials use the affidavits and NPC certificates to quote the age that suit them thereby falsifying their ages.


Mrs Obioma, who warned those indulging in such fraudulent acts to desist forthwith, said that any one caught in the act would be summarily dismissed from the Service and also prosecuted.


The state government had, in 2023, launched a verification exercise in the civil and public service aimed at strengthening the Service and also flushing out ghost workers.


It also directed civil servants in the state to upload their credentials online, on a government approved portal.
