Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing. It has come to the attention of the member representing Aba North and Aba South Federal constituency, House Of Representatives, Hon. Alex Ikwechegh (Onyeocha n’Aba) that some dubious persons have been going around collecting money from the unsuspecting public in the guise of empowering such people.


 Hon. Ikwechegh wishes to state as follows:


1: He has never requested a dime from anyone for empowerment.


2: All his empowerment programmes have been fully funded by him at no cost to the beneficiaries.


3: Onyeocha n’Aba is using this medium to call on all Aba residents, businessmen, traders, market unions, cooperative societies to be on the lookout for such people and report to the Police for prompt action.


4: Hon. Ikwechegh is asking those who may have fallen victim to report to his constituency office, 59 Pounds Road by Georges, with evidence including the phone number of the scammers.
