 LAWMA SEALS PREMISES ON AGO PALACE WAY, ARRESTS 11 DUMPERS ON LAGOS ISLAND … Intensifies Enforcement Against Illegal Waste Disposal In renewed enforcement efforts, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has sealed premises identified for persistent illegal waste dumping along Ago Palace Way and arrested 11 persons for illegal waste disposal in various parts of Lagos Island. The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said that the enforcement operations underscored the Authority’s resolve to enforce existing waste management regulations and ensure compliance with approved waste disposal practices across Lagos. He explained that the Ago Palace Way operation covered plazas, hotels, lounges and warehouses along the corridor, as part of efforts to tackle activities contributing to waste build-up and environmental nuisance on road setbacks, medians and other unauthorised public spaces. Israeli strikes hit Lebanon as mediators push Gaza truce


Israeli airstrikes targeted Lebanon and Gaza on Saturday, resulting in significant casualties, as U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken returned to Israel in an effort to finalize a Gaza truce agreement. Diplomats believe that reaching such an agreement could prevent a broader regional conflict.


In Lebanon, an Israeli airstrike in the southern region claimed the lives of 10 people, including a Syrian woman and her two children, according to a statement from Lebanon’s health ministry. The ministry described the strike as one of the deadliest in southern Lebanon since the near-daily clashes between Israel and Hezbollah began following the outbreak of the Gaza conflict in October.


Israel’s military confirmed the strike, stating that it targeted a Hezbollah weapons storage facility in southern Lebanon. A spokesperson for the Israeli Defense Forces said, “We carried out an operation against a Hezbollah weapons depot in response to ongoing threats from the group.” The escalating violence has intensified concerns about a potential wider regional escalation.
