 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. ENHANCED SECURITY MEASURES IMPLEMENTED AHEAD OF NIGERIA'S 64TH INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION


The Bauchi State Police Command, under the stewardship of  Commissioner of Police CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, psc, Anipr, has implemented rigorous security measures to ensure a peaceful and secure celebration of Nigeria's 64th Independence Anniversary.


In accordance with the directives of the 22nd Indigenous Inspector General of Police Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD., NPM, CP MM AUWAL convened a crucial meeting at the State Headquarters with Heads of Departments, Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs). The focus of the meeting was to emphasize the effective deployment of human and tactical resources across the state to maintain law and order, especially in key public spaces.


The CP has instructed all deployed officers to maintain vigilance, professionalism, and courtesy in their interactions with the public. Furthermore, a directive has been issued to crack down on any individuals attempting to disrupt the peace or engage in unlawful activities during the celebration.


CP MM Auwal extends his sincere congratulations to the residents of Bauchi and all Nigerians on this significant occasion, encouraging citizens to reflect on the nation’s progress, honour the efforts of past leaders, and contribute to fostering unity and peaceful coexistence.


The Bauchi State Police Command reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property during the Independence celebrations and beyond.
