 IGP DISU PAYS OPERATIONAL VISIT TO  AKWA IBOM, PRESIDES OVER PASSING-OUT CEREMONY OF 1,068 RETRAINED CONSTABLES The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today, 30th April 2026, undertook an official visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, ahead of the passing-out ceremony of retrained Police Constables in Uyo.  Police Arrest Three Suspects in Connection with Hijacking, Murder, and Unlicensed Firearms


On Sunday, September 15, 2024, police arrested three suspects at Phokoane village in the Nebo policing area for their alleged involvement in murder, hijacking, and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.


The arrests followed an incident where members of the Nebo and Jane Furse Tracking Team spotted a suspicious white Toyota with four occupants while tracing wanted suspects. As they approached the vehicle, the suspects opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate. Two suspects were shot, one fatally, while the other was taken to a local hospital with injuries. Two additional suspects were apprehended.


Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle, driven by the suspects, was reported hijacked in September 2024 in the Nebo policing area.


The suspects are scheduled to appear before the Nebo Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
