 TROOPS OF OPERATION WHIRL STROKE ARREST HIGH PROFILE CRIMINAL IN BENUE COMMUNITY Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE arrested a high-profile suspected criminal during an intelligence-driven operation in Agasha Village of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State, following a report of an attack on a local resident. The operation was launched on 13 March 2026 after security agencies received credible information regarding an attack on Mr Shaapera Seeta Michael in Agasha Village. Acting swiftly on the report, troops of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Intervention Battalion XI deployed under Operation WHIRL STROKE mobilised immediately to the affected area to track down the suspect responsible for the assault. Upon arrival, the troops cordoned the area to prevent the suspect from escaping while conducting a targeted search operation aimed at identifying and apprehending the alleged attacker. Vice-President Kashim Shettima, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Governor Umar Dikko Radda, and Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, were among the dignitaries who attended the funeral service for the mother of former President Umar Musa Yar’Adua.

Vice President Kashim Shettima and Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, were among thousands of dignitaries who attended the funeral prayer for the mother of the fomer senator representing Borno Central, Baba Kaka Bashir Garbai.

 

The prayer was led by the Imam Idaini of Borno, Shettima Mamman Saleh, at the palace of the Shehu of Borno on Tuesday.

 

Late Hajja Zainab Abba Bashir died in the early hours of Tuesday at a hospital in Maiduguri, aged 82.

 

The deceased left behind many children and grandchildren.

 

The traditional rulers led by the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi comprise the Shehu of Dikwa, Ibrahim Ibn Umar Elkanemi, Waziri of Borno, Mutawali Shettima Bukar, and many council members.

 

Also in attendance were former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, APC Deputy National Chairman Ali Bukar Dalori, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari, and the Speaker of Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan.

 

The Secretary to Borno State Government, Alhaji Bukar Tijani, also led members of the Borno executive council.
