TCN Assures Northern Nigeria of Swift Power Restoration Amid Security Challenges

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has addressed reports of an indefinite power outage in parts of Northern Nigeria, clarifying that efforts are actively underway to restore bulk power supply despite serious security challenges.

The outage, which has affected several states, was caused by the vandalism of the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line by insurgents.

During a recent public hearing by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), TCN’s Executive Director for Independent System Operations, Engr. (Mrs.) Nafisatu Ali, highlighted that TCN has engaged with the Office of the National Security Adviser to ensure adequate security support for its engineers working on the ground.

“Deploying engineers without security support is not feasible given the risks in the region,” she explained, assuring the public that TCN is dedicated to restoring power as soon as possible and that suggestions of an indefinite outage are inaccurate.

To mitigate the impact, TCN had temporarily rerouted power through the Ugwuaji-Apir 330kV line; however, this line also recently experienced a fault.

Engr. Ali emphasized that TCN remains committed to overcoming these challenges.

The company reassured residents of Northern Nigeria of its commitment to resolving the outage quickly, understanding the essential role electricity plays in the lives of Nigerians.

TCN promised that no effort will be spared in addressing the situation, in collaboration with security agencies, to restore power and alleviate the hardships faced by affected communities.
