 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

 Alaye Explains Withdrawal of Planned Protest Against NDDC Board


Dr. Alaye Theophilus, the factional President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), has explained that the decision to cancel a planned protest against the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) was due to the timely intervention of influential regional leaders.


The protest, initially scheduled for Thursday, November 14, 2024, aimed to express dissatisfaction with the NDDC’s management, which the group accused of selective and inadequate performance in its activities.


In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, Theophilus revealed that the intervention of key figures such as Pa Edwin Clark, Ambassador Godknows Igali, Alhaji Asari Mujahid Dokubo, HRM King Ateke Michael Tom, the leadership of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), and other respected stakeholders led to the cancellation of the protest. Theophilus cited their advice to avoid escalating tensions in the region, particularly in light of recent violence in Abuloma and the volatile political climate in the state. He emphasized the need to prevent political opportunists from hijacking the protest to stir unrest.


“The concerns of our elders are important to us, and we must prioritize peace in the region,” Theophilus stated, acknowledging the ongoing struggle for Niger Delta development.


He assured the public that the IYC would continue to monitor the actions of the NDDC closely. Theophilus urged the Commission to focus on sustainable infrastructure projects, work more closely with Niger Delta governors, and ensure that employment and empowerment opportunities reach all parts of the region. 


However, he also warned, "As an advocacy group fighting for justice, equity, and accountability for the Ijaw people, we will not hesitate to mobilize against the NDDC management if these issues are not addressed promptly."
