Demolition Displacing 10,000 Puts FCT at Risk – VeryDarkMan to Wike

Social critic Martins Ortse, also known as VeryDarkMan, addressed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, asserting that he is not attempting to blackmail the minister over the recent demolition of the Ruga community.

VeryDarkMan urged Wike to relocate the thousands of residents whose homes were destroyed in the demolition, which he argued is making the FCT less secure.

According to reports, Wike had earlier directed a task force, “Operation Sweep,” to demolish Ruga and other areas in the capital, as part of a broader effort to rid the city of what the government sees as nuisances and criminal activity.

In defense of the demolition, Wike stated that the operation was intended to sanitize and improve security in the FCT. He also emphasized that no amount of blackmail or intimidation would deter the government from its mission, saying: “Our priority is to protect lives and property, and to make Abuja one of the safest cities in the world.”

Responding to Wike's remarks, VeryDarkMan expressed disagreement with the minister's stance. Taking to Instagram, he posted: “Dear Nyesom Wike, I wasn’t paid, and I’m definitely not trying to blackmail you. I’m sure Deji Adeyanju wasn’t paid either.”

He continued: “Just be honorable and humane, and have some sympathy. Relocate the displaced people and continue with your development plans. You can’t secure Abuja like this. What you’re doing now will lead to bigger problems in the future. Thank you, sir.”
