Edo Governor Okpebholo Orders Freeze of All State Bank Accounts

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate freezing of all state government bank accounts, effective Thursday. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the governor emphasized that the freeze would remain in place until further notice.

Governor Okpebholo directed commercial banks, ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to adhere to the order without delay, warning of severe consequences for non-compliance.

The statement read: “All state accounts with commercial banks are now frozen. Banks must ensure no withdrawals are made from government accounts until further notice. Heads of MDAs are required to enforce full compliance immediately.”

The governor also stated that after conducting necessary investigations and reconciliations, appropriate actions would be taken.

Additionally, Governor Okpebholo instructed that the Ministry of Roads and Bridges be renamed to its previous title, the Ministry of Works, which had been altered during the tenure of former Governor Godwin Obaseki. He criticized the previous administration for renaming the ministry, pointing out that no bridges had been constructed during that period.

The statement concluded, “Further reviews of actions taken by the former administration will be made, and decisions will be based on what is best for the state.”
