M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept".  Fubara Vows to Redesign Port Harcourt Township and Rebuild Creek Road Market

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to rebuild the Creek Road Market in the old Port Harcourt Township into a modern facility, providing traders with a better working environment and giving the city a fresh appearance.

The governor explained that this initiative is part of his administration’s commitment to fully implement the Urban Renewal Policy, prioritizing the needs of the people. Fubara made the announcement during a visit to the market on Tuesday, where he observed the ongoing trading activities along Creek Road and surrounding streets.

He emphasized that revitalizing Port Harcourt as a "Garden City" will require transforming it into a livable urban space that ensures sustainable development. However, this goal, he noted, cannot be achieved without properly designating areas for trade.

Fubara also reflected on the previous administration's decision to relocate traders to No 3 Field during the Creek Road reconstruction, explaining that there was no concrete plan to return them to their original trading site or rebuild the market afterward.

The governor, who was accompanied by key officials including the Commissioners for Housing and Urban Development, as well as the Chairman of the Port Harcourt Township Re-urbanization Committee, stated that the first priority is to provide the traders with a suitable market. This, he said, would allow for the relocation of trading activities from residential areas, thus clearing the way for the town’s beautification.

He expressed regret over the current challenges faced by residents in the process of development but reassured that his administration would take all necessary steps to ensure that the Creek Road traders are relocated to a fitting and proper market.
