 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

 Immigration Raises Alarm Over Growing Influx of Irregular Migrants into Nigeria


The Controller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Edo State Command, Martins Moye, has raised concerns over the increasing number of irregular migrants entering Nigeria.


Speaking at the 2024 NIS awareness campaign against irregular migration in Benin City, Edo State, with the theme “Say No to Migrant Smuggling. If You Must Migrate, Migrate Safely, Orderly, and Regularly,” Moye stressed the urgency of addressing this issue as the numbers of irregular migrants continue to rise.


The three-day sensitization program took NIS officers to various locations, including the palace of the Enogie (Duke) of Eyaen, local markets, motor parks, and key streets. Moye emphasized the need for increased public awareness to tackle the growing problem of irregular migration.


Assistant Controller of Immigration, David Amanahu, who also facilitated the event, noted Edo State's historical significance in irregular migration. However, he highlighted that recent efforts by the Edo State Command have led to improvements, with the state no longer holding the top spot in the national ranking for irregular migration.


“The good news is that Edo State is no longer ranked number one in irregular migration. This is thanks to the hard work of the team in Edo who have worked relentlessly to improve the situation,” Amanahu said.


Delivering a message from the Controller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, Amanahu emphasized the NIS’s renewed focus on border management and migration-related issues. 


Deputy Superintendent of Immigration, Woshak Danladi, warned of the grave risks posed by irregular migration, including the potential loss of freedom and even life. “Irregular migration can lead to organ harvesting, human rights abuses, and numerous other dangers,” he said, urging NIS officers to educate the public about these risks.
